Dorking's housing does a lot of the deciding for us. The period cottages and Victorian villas around the town centre and West Street's antiques quarter are full of character, which in our trade means narrow staircases, tight landings and rooms that quietly fill up over the decades. The older cottages near the centre often have no parking of their own, and the lanes out to the villages and up the hill are narrow in places. None of it stops a job.
